| Broadband Phones: No longer an aging copper cable | | Posted Tuesday, January 24, 2006 3:23:34 PM by Rose Martins | Broadband phones are becoming a household necessity. And broadband phone companies are competing for their piece of the action. Most broadband phones services are promising unlimited bandwith by means of broadband phone cables that are no longer the aging copper phone lines.
Many broadband service providers are now also offering free broadband phones by means of VoiP, as well as broadband video phone capabilities.
The broadband internet phone has proven emense popularity, as broadband internet and VoiP phones are very cost effective, with broadband speeds equalling that of the regular phone, and are being used simultaneously with a broadband video service.
And broadband is not just limited to your home phone. Many business people are also using broadband cell phones, enabling them to take their "portable office" with them on their travels.
Broadband connections are now a standard in every hotel bedroom, conference room and function room.

Now he is manoeuvring cable television company NTL into a position where it could take on Rupert Murdoch's BSkyB, the satellite television operator. Earlier this year, Branson pulled off something of a coup when he sold his mobile phone business to NTL for more than £900m and as part of the deal took an 11 per cent stake in the enlarged mobile/cable group that also offers fixed-line telephone and broadband services.
